SNUFF / WONK UNIT / THE FLEECE / APRIL 6th 2017

Soooo Snuff have been around for donkeys years and still as exciting and relevant as ever. They play fast melodic punk rock that is quintessentially British.  It never ceases to amaze me how Duncan can play the drums that fast and sing at the same time. Class.

First time seeing Wonk Unit, a much newer band that have taken a similar mantel. Their albums play out like a comedic, punk rock musical about the working mans adventures in and around London. Alex’s interludes and intros to the songs really get me. That man is a poet.

Both bands are a perfect mix of great music and humour. They all seem to genuinely enjoy what they do and we could do with more bands like them.

Hot Mass / Le Pub / Newport / March 24th 2017

It was great to catch Hot Mass (ex Arteries / Dividers) at Le Pub hosted by Le Pub with support from People And Other Diseases and KVSD.

Hot Mass released ‘Flatman’, a B-Side from their LP ‘Nervous Tensions’ released in March this year before their mini tour around Europe. I always enjoy watching them perform their energetic music.

Sadly Le Pub is closing but will live on in a new form as the team will be moving it in to a more creative art space; more information on this at Le Public Space.

I want to do more to help our changing community, I am hoping that helping document our scene contributes to it somehow, even as something to look back for memories sake or to show how far we’ve come.

Laura Stevenson / Thekla / Bristol / January 29th 2017

Sooo, at the beginning of this year in the pits of January a beam of light called Laura Stevenson shone on our winter faces at the best boat venue in Bristol.

It is always great to see her play her music. Every time the crowd and atmosphere are completely different, whether playing to a rowdy crowd before a punk band or to an attentive audience. Laura supported Kevin Devine at Thekla, she always manages to captivate us. It was lovely to be able to catch up with her and take these shots.

Music is such a good way to get me out of winter hibernation, I find it really helps me get through shit whilst making memories to keep.
